It seems we live always using “Design Technology”. What is design technology itself? The design itself is the act οf working out the form of something (as by making a sketch or outline or plan) or in other word, design, in contrast to analysis, involves much less discussion with the customer about the detailed meaning of the system. Design is about deciding on structures which can be justified as being necessary in terms of efficiency, flexibility, re-use, and other factors.
The second stage in the life-cycle of a sοftware development project – intended to determine exactly how the functions required of a computer system can be achieved. A number of design solutions may be examined prior to design decisions being made about the structure and implementation details. The digital camera captured images and convert to digital values into binary numbers which are zero and one. Whereas analog cameras captured images electronically presented of the continuous analog waveform (www.kodak.com). There are differences in capturing process, speed and imaging process.
Today, the new digital still camera still has problem of delaying from the startup, the times between photos, it takes few seconds to boot up camera and before taking the photos, the delay οf pressing shutter button and images actually captures, it takes time for the camera to digitize images to its storage card and it is impossible to take another photos during that processing times (couple seconds). There are also disadvantages of digital still cameras in the different type of storage cards and they are not compatible with other.
The limitation of storage and sizes on these cards are difference, for example: Compact Flash’s cards store of maximum οf 128 mega bytes and they are larger than Smart Media cards. Smart Media cards are more cheaper but limited in storage size (32-64 mega bytes) and they also need interface adaptor for computer’s connection which can cost more. Sony memory sticks are generally limited with Sony’s product; the users would choose cameras with this option when they have other Sony products which use these memory sticks. There are also disadvantages of short batteries life and difficulties in using LCD screen in sunlight. However, the digital still cameras are more advantage in speed and imaging process. The images captured with digital still cameras do not to be developed because there is no film processing. The convenience of digital cameras is that they have ability to transfer images data through the USB connection to PC at faster speeds. The conventional cameras entirely depend on film and chemical processing. With analog cameras, the images captured by film and they have to wait for at least an hour for the chemical processing.
The advantages of analog cameras user is, the cost to buy cameras and films are cheaper. It is also cheaper to print images from films than digital cameras, since the cost to buy digital cameras are more expensive than analog cameras and the cost of print is higher, maybe it will stay the same in the coming years. The print processing οf the digital cameras need certain equipments to do the job, such as PC, digital printer. Furthermore, the products that made from digital still cameras are used differently to the film-based camera. When they have transferred images files in the computer, they can share these files with the world by send an email with attachments, post these files on their own website. Users can join together these files into multimedia presentation such as power point, flash movies. With digital files users can burn or copy these files to CD- ROM or DVD as storage. In other hand, Sony have produce digital camera call Sony Mavica MVC-CD1000 that built-in CD-R drive that uses 8cm 156MB disc to save the images direct from the digital camera.
The lowest price of digital camera with 1 or 1.3 mega pixels resolutions is good enough for family snapshots and that will look fine to put on the websites and for email, but the quality of the image does not looks good when printed out. However consumers may want to buy digital cameras from 3 to 4 mega pixels which produce higher image quality and that is more expensive than to buy analog cameras. At this high resolution cameras user may want to move on to take photos beyond the family snapshot, however this is not good enough for professional photo and in comparing with 35 mm film cameras.
The professional photographers may pay up to few thousands dollars to have a digital camera which is match with the 35 mm conventional camera. However normal users tend to have both digital and analog camera, they would use them both if there is a need to snap images, such as birthday parties, picnics. Because οf the improvement in quality and speed, digital are more popular and dominant in photography market. People buy more digital still cameras because they are easy to use and the “habit” of taking picture from some users that seem to limitless on digital camera, because storage memory in digital can be erased and use again for thousand times. This is also a good chance for amateur photographers and people taken shots as a hobby.
The digital image products have considered either as high-end tools for photojournalism or graphic project and low-end toys for consumers. Furthermore digital cameras have moving beyond photographic market and become tools that helped develop more businesses in the field. To have good photos that taken from the digital camera, users may spend few more hundred dollars to buy the quality digital printer.
Today, the digital images are able to transfer from the camera through the USB port to PC. Users can select or choose the right images for their own purposes burn the digital images to CD-Rom and bring to any photo shops for digital prints. Digital cameras have played important role for online photo gallery. To make images look good for publication print or for web, there are number of steps to manipulate images by using computer software such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel draw, Photo Impact. This is going back to using hands and eyes and for some people it seems to be the replacement for darkroom. Some of the manipulation technique such as adding text, edit, compression, scaling, and effect to the images which make them look more effectively depends on how photographers or consumers desired.
In conclusion, as we look at the advantages and disadvantages οf both digital cameras and analog cameras. It seems to be that the future of photography is based upon digital technology and the analog imaging system has slowly declined. However, there are evidences that film-based photography still strong existence in the market. It is hard to say that these analog camera going to out of date because millions of cameras still used by the consumers. What would happen is that analog camera slowly decline, film will becoming more and more expensive due to the numbers sale decrease. On the other hand, both professional photographers and amateur photographers are encouraged to use digital technology because οf its convenience. In order to survive, traditional film based need to develop and improve for their on going business. However at the same time digital technology increasingly developed that can destroy analog imaging system. As the technologies themselves developed, they will effect on the life style of each individually.
