National Guard and Active duty have been used during disastrous times. Therefore, international and domestic disasters have become an issue for the president to send active-duty forces to those places and permit them to maintain order and protect lives. This paper aims to discuss the capabilities and limitations of Active duty and identify why the national guard is being used to support disaster relief efforts.
Active duty consists of military men who are full-time employed. Typically, active-duty units are involved in planning processes, engineering assistance, and support to erect buildings, barriers, aviation support to transport different objects. Moreover, they are engaged in medical teams and are capable of constructing housing for the Border Patrol personnel and participate in logistics actions. Otherwise, they are sent to places of emergencies to protect people’s lives and maintain order to be deployed at any time. Though, there are several limitations concerning the role of Active Duty. Firstly, they can neglect their capabilities and harm local people. Therefore, trespassing on their abilities may seriously damage the freedom to operate and affect civilian organizations.
The National Guard was always used as a disaster relief mostly for suppressing riots. Their first task though, is to ensure the order is maintained and the humanitarian help is provided to the suffering area. Military troops are typically used when the urgent and rapid response is needed; therefore, they act coordinated (Tucker, 2020). However, the source states the National Guard lacks precise and efficient response capability, thus endangering civilians’ safety. The timely arrival of troops and their cooperated actions have been crucial to relieve the crisis or riot. Despite this fact, military soldiers of the National Guard are still deployed to different places primarily to provide first aid, help with transportation, and sustain order.
