My opinion about Business Leadership skills

Business leadership entails many aspects. This included the element of enhancing emotional literacy, which enables an individual to conceptualize information by acknowledging and analyzing feelings. This aspect is critical in leadership as it gives the leader insight into understanding human behavior. This aspect enables leaders to integrate emotional insights into the decision making process. The other aspect of business leadership is the skill to recognize patterns (Lennick & Kiel, 2007). This refers to the ability to recognize the reactions and behaviors that occur frequently. This is critical for leaders as it enables them to track and monitor their reaction (Neale, Spencer-Arnell, & Wilson, 2011). In this way, leaders will also be able to note the patterns among the other people in the group. Such leaders are best placed to understand their behaviors, as well as that of the team members (Singh, 2006). This is essential in promoting the functionality of the group. The other aspect of leadership is about applying consequential thinking. This entails the evaluation of the choices made (Matthews, Zeidner & Roberts, 2004). This skill is critical as it enables the leaders to conduct an assessment of their decisions. As a leader, this competence can be great when establishing a strategic plan, as well as in the management of one’s behavior (Goleman, Boyatzis & McKee, 2002).

Furthermore, the other aspect of leadership includes the navigation of emotions. This refers to the ability of the leader to the alignment of emotions as a strategic resource. Notably, emotions cannot be separated from the decision making process. Leaders who know how to navigate emotions are effective in coping with themselves and are effective in influencing others. Intrinsic motivation is another aspect of good leadership. This refers to the ability to gain motivation from individual values and commitment. Thus, engaging intrinsic motivation is about the development and utilization of inner drivers, as opposed to being dependent on external motivation. Although leadership can be enhanced by external motivation, self-drive is also critical to leadership. The followers also get motivated by the leader’s values.

Apart from this, good leadership is also characterized by optimism. Optimism entails a proactive approach to issues (Goleman, Boyatzis & McKee, 2002). It enables individuals to have an insight into the future and take control of the future. Good leadership should paint a positive picture of the future and encourage others to pursue the intended goals. Thus, good leadership entails being optimistic about the future. Good leaders should be able to develop empathy (Bhattacharya & Sengupta, 2007). In this case, they should be able to recognize and respond to the feelings of others. This is a critical element in understanding others. It also plays a vital role in the formation of enduring and trusting relations. Thus, good leadership should entail caring and respecting one another’s feelings (Parker, Saklofske & Stough, 2009). Lastly, the other aspect of good leadership is the pursuit of noble goals. In this regard, a leader should be able to connect his or her choices with the principal sense of purpose. This aspect prompts the other competencies discussed above. The pursuit of noble goals is critical in enhancing integrity and ethical behavior. This is especially the case among the leaders. Good leaders with the competence of pursuing noble goals are well connected to the principles and purpose of the group. In this case, they can offer good leadership.

How to use EQ controls to support my goals

I have a great interest in the hospitality industry. Thus, I am enrolled in a hospitality and event degree at the Swiss Hotel Management School. This institution offers different modules related to the hospitality industry. This has enabled me to learn about the functions related to the different departments in the hotel sector. I like interacting with people, and this has been a major aspect that has informed by career choice. Thus, after going through the various courses offered by the institution, I chose to study sales. In this case, I will be able to serve in the Sales Department of the hotel industry. In the next five years, I plan to complete my studies at the Swiss Hotel Management School and apply for a management trainee position in one of the luxurious hotels in Singapore. Serving in a management position will enable me to prepare myself for a future management position in the hotel industry. As noted, my passion lies in sales, and I would want to focus on room marketing and room sales, as well as event sales. After serving in Singapore, I plan to relocate to my home country, China. At the moment, China does not have a professional hospitality industry. However, the trend is expected to change shortly. Therefore, I am expecting to make a positive contribution to the hospitality industry in my home country.

Emotional intelligence is critical in the achievement of goals in one’s life (Emmerling, Shanwal & Mandal, 2008). The various aspects that we have learned will be critical in enabling the achievement of my goals. For instance, empathy is a critical element that will assist me to achieve my intended goals in the plan (Lynn, 2004). Since I would like to become a salesperson, I will be interacting with different people daily. Therefore, I need to have empathy that will enable me to relate to these people in an effective manner. Apart from empathy, I will also need to develop trust towards other people that I meet in the course of my job. In this case, I will be required to be competent in navigating emotions.

This is critical since I will be able to establish a trusting relationship with the potential clients. In this case, I will be able to evaluate emotions, both mine and of the people I meet to have a profound impact on the people I meet. Furthermore, I will have to pursue noble goals to be successful in my chosen career. This will enable me to pursue my goals effectively. In this case, I will be connected to my purpose and influence my colleagues in a principled manner. Communication is a critical element in human life. In the realization of my career objectives, I will need to have great communication skills. This is prompted by the fact that I will have to interact with many people. A salesperson has to be eloquent and has a good command of the language in communicating with potential clients. In this regard, I have learned English to add to Mandarin. Thus, I am well placed to deal with clients from various parts of the world. Having chosen a career that involves guest relations, I need problem-solving skills. These skills will enable me to deal with any issues that may arise when dealing with clients.

The progress made after EQ class

The emotional intelligent class has been of great benefit. The class has placed me in a good position to achieve my career objectives with ease. When I joined the emotional intelligence class, I was poor in problem-solving. However, I feel that this is not a problem anymore given that the class has equipped me with the necessary skills in problem-solving. Initially, I was very poor in navigating emotions. This presented a great challenge I was unable to tap into this resource. However, from the class, I have been able to learn the importance of navigating emotions (Henry, 2011). This will enhance the management of my feelings, and be able to influence other people. I can exercise optimism, which is critical for foreseeing a positive future. In this case, I know the importance of resolving problems for a better future. The emotional intelligence class has enabled me to embrace self-management skills. In this case, I can direct and control my emotions consciously. Thus, I will be able to manage my reactions despite the challenges and problems that I may face. The emotional intelligence class will play a critical role in my future career. I will be able to use what I have learned to excel in my career. After this class, I can now be confident that I am going to make great achievements in my career given what I have been taught in the EQ class. Therefore, I expect to excel in my career as a salesperson in the hospitality industry. Having attended the EQ classes, I am optimistic that I will be able to prosper.
