Collaborative challenges facing compact

The global compact refers to a policy scheme for business ventures which are keen on harmonizing their functions and plans with globally acceptable ideologies, with respect to labor, anti corruption, human rights and the environment. This will make them principal enforcers of globalization, a move that will be beneficial by ensuring that commerce, technology, finance and market areas develop adequately, thereby helping their respective societies and economies. Summarily, compact was established to aid the private sector with management of complicated opportunities and risks that occur in the realms of governance, environmentally and within social circles. This implies to factors which are out to embed societies and marketplaces that subscribe to universally acceptable values and principles for the benefit of all (United Nations, 2008).

This implies that Compact plays an oversight role for millions of NGOs and other implementation oriented organizations, which are tasked with fulfilling policies established by compact. Consequently, disagreements often arise owing to the clarity of goals. This is often played out during joint meetings, when differences in agenda and proposed implementation methodologies often play out. In addition, some organizations may feel that little is being done by the parent organization with respect to meeting the established targets. Most importantly, some agencies often depict stubbornness out of bigotry and feeling self important. Such scenes are testament to the lack of collaboration that often plagues the implementation of these goals (United Nations, 2007).

The role of NGOs in the above challenge

NGOs exist to bridge the gap between donor institutions and recipients of the funds. They also strive to implement most of the projects established in line with the millennium development goals. This implies that they act as a bridge between Compact and the states in which actual implementation needs to be carried out.

As a result, they perform different roles, which are assigned depending on their charter (DePaul University, 2010). They are often used in advisory capacity, as watchdogs or as service providers in their areas of operation. This way, they participate in the actual service delivery or carry out oversight roles for implementing bodies. They may also be tasked with auditing roles, which are often discharged effectively.

Effects NGOs have on Compact’s agenda

They have a positive effect on the duties bestowed on Compact, because they participate in establishing and implementing the global agenda. This implies offering expert advice as regards crucial matters which may be unknown to the hierarchy. They are better placed to offer this due to their presence at the lowest of levels with common men.

They also challenge the United Nations by ensuring goals are established and implemented within the specified time span. This reduces the plight of communities by availing necessities closer to them. It also ensures transparency is maintained and fiscal responsibility is fully enforced, which ensures that goodwill is maintained and the project serves the intended purpose (Bianchi, 2004).

Most importantly, these organizations play an important role in the decision making process within the governing councils of the United Nations and Compact. This is because they provide dynamism, which is requisite when establishing a work plan. They are also required to ensure that prioritized needs are satisfied by the established plans. While this role may have mixed effects on Compacts agenda due to the introduction of bureaucracy, it guards against inconsistencies and misplaced priorities. Consequently, development as was envisaged in the initial plans is delivered to the people who rightfully deserve it.
