This paper seeks to carry to analysis on the movement of stock prices for three companies. The companies are Google Inc., Yahoo Inc., and Apple Inc. The analysis will cover a period of 10 weeks, that is, between 1st September, 2014 and 9th November, 2014. The stock prices for these companies will be compared with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI).
The stock prices for Google Inc. traded at a higher price than the other two companies. Google Inc. is a public company that operates in the telecommunications equipment, internet, and computer software. It was established in 1998. At the beginning of the period, the prices for the company dropped by 0.33%.
However, by the end of week two and four, the shares had gained a total of 2.13%. Further, between week five and week seven the shares were down by a total of 4.9%. From week eight and week ten, the stock prices increased by a total of 3.93%. At the end of the period, it can be observed that the price of the stock had increased from $545.30 in week 1 to $580.21 in week 10.
The stock of Yahoo, Inc. had the least price as compared to the other two. This explains why it appears at the bottom of the chart. Yahoo, Inc. is a public company that operates in the web search engine, internet, and the computer software industry. The company was established in 1994.
There were no significant changes in the price of the stock during the 10-week period because the line graph is nearly horizontal. During the first week, the stock was down by 0.20%, while the DJI gained 1.13%. During the second week, the company gained 0.80%, while DJI lost 0.05%. Further, between week three and week five, the stock was down by a total of 3.48%.
During the same period, DJI gained a total of 4.21% (Yahoo Finance 1). In week six, the share price increased slightly (0.05%) and dropped later by 0.88% in week seven. During week nine and ten, the stock prices increased by 0.92% and 0.04%. It can be noted that shares of the company dropped significantly during the 10 week period. It started at $50.40 and at the end of the period the price was $40.0 (Buttler 56).
Apple Inc., established in 1976, is a public that operates in digital distribution, computer software, computer hardware, and the consumer electronics industry. In week one, the price of shares increased by 0.22% and later decreased by 0.83% in week two. During week three and four, the price of the stock increased by a total of 0.32%. In week five, the stock prices dropped by 0.70% and later increased by 4.53% between week six and ten. Thus, it can be observed that there was no significant change in the stock prices during the ten-week period.
In summary, at the beginning, stock for Apple Inc. and DJI moved in the same direction as was in the case for Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. In week five, price of stock for all the 3 companies dropped while for DJI rose. During the last three weeks, the market prices for all the four stocks improved.
