Importance of Healthcare IT Governance

Defined as a combination of standards for ethical behavior and information management in the hospital setting, healthcare IT governance has a crucial function in a healthcare setting. Namely, by considering the integration and use of IT and ICT tools in the healthcare context, the board can infer data for updating the current strategies aimed at improving public health. By introducing healthcare IT governance, one will enhance communication between healthcare staff members, as well as the nurse-patient dialogue (Levstek, Hovelja, & Pucihar, 2018). Thus, critical data will be processed faster, which will lead to improvements in addressing key health concerns. Moreover, the inclusion of healthcare IT governance will provide opportunities for nurses and other healthcare staff members to be involved in the development of policies aimed at improving public health. By utilizing IT and ICT tools, one will be able to increase the extent of communication between the board and hospital staff members, which will provide evidence for policymaking.

Healthcare IT Governance and Organizational Culture

The organizational culture of a company has a direct effect on the IT governance model that it develops and deploys. Since the organizational culture affects the integration and acceptance of newly developed rules and new instructions, the inclusion of IT governance into the corporate setting will require time to be accepted and applied by staff members (Nugroho, 2017). Moreover, the skills needed for the employees to incorporate IT tools and strategies into the range of instruments that they use in the healthcare setting will also require extra time to be developed (IT Governance Institute, 2005). Therefore, the successful deployment of the IT governance principles depends significantly on the organizational culture established in the target healthcare setting, as well as its hierarchy, philosophy, and workplace ethics. Overall, the organizational culture that is more flexible is bound to provide a better basis in integrating the said elements into its framework.
