Introduction

Purpose

The main purpose is to write a historical report about such a topic as the development of heating systems. This task will be important for attaining some of the goals relevant to this course. For instance, this assignment can give a person in-depth insight into the peculiarities of research about technologies and presentation of findings to the readers.

Background

Overall, the term heating system can be defined as any technology that enables people to regulate temperature. So, in this case, one should not speak only about the mechanisms that increase temperature within a dwelling. These technologies can also be applied to cool the air within a building (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system, n. d.). It should be noted that people have always used various tools that can maintain the temperature at an acceptable level (An Early History of Comfort Heating, 2001). Nevertheless, rapid development of these technologies began to take place in the second half of the nineteenth century. For instance, one can speak about the work of such prominent engineers as James Harrison and William Carrier who contributed to air refrigeration (Carrier Centrifugal Refrigeration Compressor, n. d; Bruce-Wallace, 1966).

Furthermore, one should speak about the furnace invented by Dave Lennox since this product could be purchased by a great number of people (Vogt, 2009). Additionally, much attention should be paid to the development of cast-iron radiators which were critical for the creation of central heating (The History of Cast-iron Radiators. n. d.). Overall, this report will cover the development of heating systems from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present.

Scope

This report will include the following sub-topics: 1) the historical development of devices that can be applied to warm or cool the air; 2) their integration; 3) a brief overview of the impacts that these technologies have had on the society. The third sub-topic will be primarily related to effects of heating systems on the life of families, the growth of cities, and the development of various enterprises.

Discussion

Approach

This report will include several sections. At first, I will overview the development of technologies that can be applied to heat various dwellings. The second part will be aimed at discussing the evolution of devices that are required for air refrigeration. The third section will be showing how these technologies were integrated with one another. Finally, it is important to focus on the way in which these tools transformed the society during the twentieth century. Much attention should be paid to the rapid growth of cities, located in the geographic areas with severe climate (Rappaport, 2005; Hayter, 1999). Furthermore, it is important to explain how heating systems changed the life of families and how they led to the rapid development of enterprises. These are the main details that can be identified.

Result

The findings of this report will throw light on the historical development of the heating systems. As it has been said before, this report will be important for meeting some of the main requirements related to the course. This report should demonstrate that I am able to gather and analyze relevant sources or evidence. Furthermore, it should show that I can communicate my findings effectively.

Statement of work

Overall, I will need to perform the following research and writing tasks

1. At first, I will need to review relevant sources about the development of heating systems (4 hours).
2. It is important to evaluate the collected evidence in terms of their validity and scope (4 hours).
3. Furthermore, I should develop a detailed outline of this report. This activity will be important for writing the draft of the paper (2 hours).
4. When the previous steps are completed, I will write the draft of this report (7 hours).
5. In turn, the final step will involve proofreading and editing (3 hours).

Personnel

In my opinion, I am sufficiently qualified to write this historical report. Previously, I submitted a paper about the evaluation of different heaters. To a great extent, this assignment prompted me to learn more about the historical development of the heating systems. Moreover, I have read several books and articles can be relevant to this topic. In turn, the evidence that I have collected can help me write a well-structured historical report about the development of these technologies.

Facilities and equipment

Overall, I do not need to get access to the technologies that I will be writing about because this paper is only a historical report. Nevertheless, I do need to use the following resources:

1. computer lab;
2. printers;
3. the Internet.

They will be needed for finding relevant evidence and presenting my findings.

Costs

In order to write this report, I will need to incur certain expenses. On the whole, these expenditures can be summarized in the form of a table.

This estimation of the costs is based on the premise that I will work on this assignment during twenty hours. The total expenditures will include my compensation for the twenty hours of work, computer lab fees, and tuition fees. I will complete the report during the next two weeks.

Conclusion

This proposal provides the details of the historical report that can illustrate the development of heating systems since the second half of the nineteenth century. The proposal also identifies the resources which are needed for this assignment and includes the estimation of future expenditures.
