Parents’ rights of students with disabilities in regard to their child’s assessment are defined by the law. Parents should know their rights to make sure that their children are protected and fairly treated. Parents should know that school may not use the assessment which discriminates a child in this or that way. Additionally, parents may demand to apply different forms of evaluation to assess their children from different perspectives in all spheres. Initial evaluation, reevaluation, and independent educational evaluation are three main types of assessment schools may apply in relation to children. Initial evaluation is to be completed by a group of professionals who are to be informed about a student disability.
Reevaluation is the second type of assessment. The procedure of reevaluation should be completed each three years. Professionally qualified team should also be gathered. They are to be given the observation of a student’s success in studying with portfolio. After the reevaluation, the assessment committee should decide whether a child needs the whole evaluation or not. If parents disagree, they may insist on additional full assessment, the district must agree. Independent educational evaluation is the assessment which is completed for parental request. Parents should do this evaluation for their cost, however, if they disagree with the school’s evaluation, they may ask school to pay for it. School should either pay or request a due process where it must prove that independent educational evaluation is not necessary for this particularly case. No matter who pays for independent educational evaluation, school must be informed about the results of this assessment.

This article dwells upon the way families should live in case they have a child with autism spectrum disorders. The strategies for parents for dealing with children with autism spectrum disorders are presented. In fact, when a family leads a normal life, spends finances and free time how it wants, children are usually grown up as successful members of the society as this is the main purpose of parents. However, when a child in a family is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, many problems appear on the way of parents. If the marriage does not end with a divorce, parents should try hard to bring up a child with this disability. Trying to fix the problem, parents should understand that the only way they are to behave is the move in the direction of a correct education of their child. It is natural that parents search for self determined life for a child, they want to find the school programs which are to be useful and appropriate. Special education is exactly what parents need. In case their children given a correct special education, they will have an opportunity to live a full life. Parents should accept that their children have some disabilities and some aspects of life will never be understood by their children, additionally, if parents understand what their children need, it will be easier for them to give it. What parents want do not usually coincide with the desires of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Parents are to understand it and the implications of special education may be more successful.
