The issue of safety in clinical settings might introduce some challenges. Among them is a lack of preparation, which may lead to poor decision-making on the question of safety. Next are challenges concerned with medication safety that might arise due to the lack of understanding of medication management. Another challenge, latent threats, is related to the difficulties with equipment, processes, or system breakdowns. Thus, I assume that the biggest challenges for me regarding the issue of safety in the clinical setting would be possible lack of readiness, medication safety issues, and latent safety threats.
First, in order to resolve the lack of preparation, it is essential to emphasize specific learning activities that allow detecting the student’s abilities before participating in real clinical settings. For example, the simulation activities made nursing students more comfortable when providing care (Ferguson & Cosby, 2017). Secondly, to undermine the challenges associated with medication safety, the students shall learn more about the pharmacy and medication management. The study where nurses were surveyed revealed that the majority of the nurses would prefer to take additional courses on the medication’s safety or simply refresh their knowledge (Khalil et al., 2019). The next challenge, labeled latent threats, could be overcome by implementing in situ simulation, which shows how the clinical environment reacts in its natural state, including personnel, equipment, and systems (Posner et al., 2017). All the actions mentioned above would contribute to the minimization of the risks concerning the challenges in safety in clinical settings.
For the next three to five years, I will pursue several goals, and these are the most important ones. To begin with, I am willing to maintain professional growth and personal progress. Furthermore, I have a goal to become an expert in the field of clinical medicine. Finally, my biggest goal is to achieve the highest quality of patient care, emphasizing patient safety in the clinical setting.
To progress toward those goals, it is crucial to continuously improve your knowledge and skills. I will constantly keep my learning productivity high to eliminate the lack of sufficient knowledge in the future. Moreover, I will make emphasize the practical knowledge in the area of safety in clinical settings, as I find it the paramount aspect of the work. I plan to focus on continuing my education and growing my knowledge and competencies. By doing these, I believe I can make great steps towards achieving the goals.
