Technology is everywhere, and people can hardly imagine their lives without their devices. I am no exception as I live in a country that offers so many items to make our life easier and more comfortable. My most important piece of technology is, rather expectedly, my cell phone. Clearly, I have various tools to perform diverse tasks and enjoy my life. I believe driving a car is often a blessing as I can reach many places and fulfill my plans.

However, I prefer walking as it is healthy and more pleasant since I really love my city and its nice streets and parks. I also use my laptop and television that make my life filled with information. I watch movies or some news and shows on television when I have time, which does not happen very often. I use my laptop extensively as I am a student and do most of my academic work with the help of this tool. At that, I spend only several hours a day using my laptop, but I almost never leave my cell phone out of my reach for more than several minutes.

This gadget is the most prevalent item in my life because it helps me feel connected every minute of my life. I talk with my close ones, my peers, and many other people. I read news and learn about relevant things with the help of the corresponding applications. I pay for my purchases and make sure I forget nothing. My cell phone is with me in my bed since I need it to wake me up. I admit that this close bond with a piece of plastic can seem unhealthy (and it may be so), but my cell phone is a great helper and linker.

I need to note that I had to get ready for a day without my cell phone, so I always felt its absence. Perhaps, the fact that it was an experiment made my experience less overwhelming than expected. I cannot say the day was a complete disaster as I was ready for it. I am not sure if it is not cheating, but I made my closest people aware of the experiment, so they knew I was safe and sound. At the same time, I still felt a bit anxious because I had some ideas regarding my family. Several times, I wanted to share certain things, but I could not do it because I had to wait for the evening to talk to my close ones. This part of the day was, actually, really pleasant and I had a lot of fun sharing news.

Generally speaking, technology has quite a considerable impact on me. I believe I have a mild form of addiction as I am a data abuser. I want to receive updated information about people and the world all the time. My cell phone is instrumental in gaining my rewarding stimuli. As mentioned above, I feel connected and well-informed, which is essential to me. I would not say I am constantly using social networks and chatting without a stop.

I am not even a proper user of Facebook or similar digital communities, especially if compared to the people I know. Nevertheless, I need to understand what is happening to my most important people and how I can reach them whenever I want.

I am certain that the vast majority of people I interact with have similar concerns and attitudes towards technology. My family and friends always stay in touch with me and each other. They also use various helpful applications to make their lives easier and more enjoyable. Perhaps, some of them are less dependent on their phones, but a few of these individuals are definitely completely reliant on their cell phones. I do not think my use of this device makes me less of a human or makes me weaker. This day without it suggests that I can live cell-phone-free, but I would not like to prolong the experiment because my gadget simply makes me more effective.

I am just a product of the postindustrial society where the focus is on information, services, and technology, according to Lenski. I am aware of the fact that our globalized world has many challenges, and, in my opinion, technology can be the remedy. Even our cell phones will, eventually, help humanity to address the existing and upcoming issues and transform into a new type of society. This new civilization is likely to be a group of people including billions of people who enjoy equality and have similar values. Being connected and properly informed is an important background needed to attain this goal.

In conclusion, it is necessary to stress that my cell phone is the most important piece of technology in my life. I can imagine the world without it, but I would not like to live in that kind of reality. I believe cell phones help every individual, as well as the entire humanity, to become better and more effective. I do more when I have this little helper with me, although I am capable of spending a day or even several days without it. This experiment made me think about technology and its impact on the modern society. It occurred to me that technology makes the planet spin faster, and people evolve at a higher pace. Our transition to a new type of society is likely to happen in the nearest future due to technological advances.
