Ageism is a phrase that is used to describe how different generations perceive each other as separate from themselves and how they gradually cease to identify with them as people. Ageism is when people are stereotyped and discriminated against based on their age. Age discrimination can harm the elderly’s physical well-being. Throughout people’s lives, many people experience ageism without realizing it or making it public. This work is written to highlight the personal experience of ageism.
I had already been moved from a prominent, rewarding position where I performed well at work. My peers appreciated me for what might be called an autonomous contribution role in the corporate world; however, I felt like I was playing a role with little influence. During a conversation with my manager about this, I expressed dissatisfaction with the new position, which did not suit me. When I looked back at the agency business during my tenure, I could determine how many times older I am. Marketing and public relations are not businesses that welcome the elderly; they are dominated by youth. Since, after all, I was a highly successful representative of this industry, I understood these tendencies. As a result, it was a complete surprise that I became an adult.
To summarize, other people’s biases or prejudices mean that personal physical characteristics such as gender, age, appearance, or ethnicity can be a significant advantage or disadvantage in the workplace. Ageism includes many tendencies that change people; thus, ageism entails factors that influence people’s perception of each other, for example, in the work environment. However, today many organizations are trying to prevent the possible harm of ageism and are taking countermeasures.
