The Tidal Model Theory is borrowed from the field of human mental health, but is also widely used in nursing. It is invaluable for specialists in psychiatric care. This model consists of five components: practice, philosophy, partnership, process, and people. These variables are essential when treating a patient with mental illness and allow for a patient-centered approach to treatment.
The Tidal model provides nurses with a foundation that enables them to deliver psychiatric care when needed. This model, developed by Phil Barker and Poppy Buchanan-Barker, places a primary emphasis on incorporating a human perspective into the treatment process (Freitas et al., 2020). The application of the theory leads to increased patient satisfaction with treatment, as well as enhanced motivation among nurses during therapeutic conversations and the patient care process. These practices build trust between the doctor and the patient, and nurses of advanced courses can assess patients’ needle needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
More experienced nurses can also contribute to the Tidal Model’s research by implementing it in different clinical settings and conducting experiments. The answer alone could have provided a more detailed critical analysis and described the author’s personal opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of the model. However, two examples could be given of actual studies or situations where the model has been applied. This would make the study more practical and applicable to a broader range of readers.
Ultimately, the Tidal Model, although initially derived from the field of mental health, plays a crucial role in modern nursing. The model continues to make significant contributions to nursing research, with a focus on patient-centered care. These factors are essential for the patient’s overall well-being, especially for people who suffer from mental health problems. Professional nurses can conduct their own research using the Tidal Model, thereby strengthening the nursing theory.
