In general terms, the American people evade those links or relationships where there is mutual dependence, unless in the family relationships. Indeed, they do not regard such relationships as being vital in their day to day life.

The Chinese born and raised in America establishes that Guanxi can be related to the notion of networking in America. Networking carries more limited obligations as compared to guanxi. This notion involves getting familiar with people who are able to provide information and probably also give help in those areas that are associated with one acquiring employment or getting a promotion in employment and to undertake those responsibilities that are related to employment. People in the same network might either offer their assistance or they might not.
