The wide use of technologies and their implementation into different areas of human activity precondition the appearance of numerous shifts of priorities towards the exploration of innovative approaches to attain better results. Especially noticeable this process becomes in the sphere of evidence-based research and investigation of concerns important for the development of diverse fields. For instance, nursing benefits from the use of the given approach as it provides specialists with an opportunity to investigate a particular problem using relevant data from other sources and creating the most efficient intervention that will help to trace the evolution of the problem, its current state, and diverse perspectives on it (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018).
Scenario Analysis
For instance, the suggested scenario revolves around the negative impact of 12-hour-shifts on nurse and patient safety because of diverse aggravating factors. The investigation of the given concern demands specific sets of data that will provide an opportunity to compare nurses performance regarding 12-hour of other shifts. It might be a complex task as the given information should be collected in different health units implementing specific research tools. However, using a report published by the Board on Health Care Services & Institute of Medicine investigators acquire access to credible pieces of evidence proving that workers with 12-hour shifts demonstrate higher levels of tiredness than workers on 8-hour shifts.
Due to the use of online databases and health IT, investigators also can support their assumptions with statistical information about the increased risk of injuries among nurses who work more than 8 hours (Ilhan, Durukan, Aras, Turkcuoglu, & Aygun, 2006). In such a way, the given scenario perfectly demonstrates how the implementation of IT technologies provides specialists with additional tools to improve their research and integrate diverse studies to attain the best result. This case will help to reorganize practice to minimize the probability of mistakes and ensure better outcomes.
Research of the Issue of Concern
In such a way, all issues important for the development of the healthcare sector could be investigated using IT technologies. For instance, today, the aspect of communication between doctors and nurses preserves its topicality as it directly impacts the quality of care delivery and outcomes (Vermeir et al., 2017b). Drawbacks in this communication deteriorate collaboration between specialists in a hospital and might precondition the emergence of diverse mistakes or maltreatment. For this reason, investigation of the given issue acquires the top priority for the healthcare sector. First, it is critical to collect pieces of evidence and select evidence-based practices that are used to address the issue. For this reason, it is possible to use online databases like PubMed, NCBI, or Sage to find peer-reviewed articles delving into the problem. Using such search terms as “communication”, “nurses”, “therapists”, “doctors”, we manage to find sources that could help to investigate the issue. Thus, articles by McIntosh, Thomas, and Brattain (2015), Vermeir et al. (2017a), Vermeir et al. (2017b) are found using this approach. These works perfectly demonstrate the importance of the given concern regarding the modern healthcare setting and the functioning of specialists who deliver care to patients. The authors provide the list of reasons that might precondition deterioration of communication patterns used within a medical unit and suggest recommendations to avoid the appearance of these conflicts.
Conclusion
Altogether, IT technologies are an integral part of the modern healthcare sector. They provide investigators with new opportunities for the research and use of evidence-based practices. These could also be applied to investigate our issue of interest and provide recommendations to improve its state.
