It is undeniably progressive to prioritize individual, family, and community health care. While the discussion of technology and 3D printing was brief, it is an issue worth exploring further. As the healthcare landscape changes, the role of technology becomes increasingly important. RNs must be prepared to use these innovations, including 3D printing, which has the potential to radically revolutionize and customize patient care.
The progress of nursing education reflects the ever-changing healthcare sector. The use of the “Care Coordination Centric Model” is a noteworthy approach to ensure that the Registered Nurse (RN) possesses not only the requisite clinical skills but also a comprehensive understanding of patient care. This concept emphasizes the importance of considering the patient as a whole, encompassing their family and community. This strategy ensures that the RN is well-equipped to address the various issues that may arise during patient care.
In light of the trends mentioned, there are two key adjustments that I believe should be implemented into the curriculum plan:
- Integration of Interprofessional Education (IPE). The healthcare industry is a collaborative area in which many professionals work together to improve patient care. As a result, registered nurses must acknowledge and respect the duties of other healthcare practitioners (Billings & Halstead, 2019). By implementing IPE into the curriculum, students will be able to learn alongside their peers from diverse disciplines, establishing a culture of teamwork and mutual respect.
- Incorporation of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). Healthcare is a continually evolving field, with new research and results being published regularly. Registered nurses must be adept at incorporating the most recent evidence into their practice (Billings & Halstead, 2019). By incorporating EBP into the curriculum, students will be trained to critically evaluate research and apply it to their clinical practice.
As previously said, the emphasis on technology is critical. The advent of technology, such as 3D printing, has created previously unimagined opportunities for enhancing patient care. However, it is also crucial to ensure that RNs are adequately trained to use these technologies in an ethical and effective manner.
