The problem of cancer is very important for the whole of mankind nowadays. This disease is one of the most common around the world, as many people in all countries have to face it and look for the effective treatment of this disease. In fact, scientists single out more than a hundred types of cancer that can be found in almost every part of the human body. But, irrespective, of the kind of cancer, this illness is terrible and people need to find the cure for it in order not to let cancer become a fatal disease for the whole of mankind. In this essay, we are going to consider the three most common types of cancer and see which progress was made in their treatment in the USA over several past years. We are going to examine the basic causes of cancer and see the most efficient ways of its treatment.
The most common type of cancer is breast cancer. It is usually thought of as a women’s disease but it occurs in men as well, although much more seldom. Breast cancer is a disease that affects the tissues of breasts and occurs either in ducts or in lobules. If in the past the treatment of breast cancer was not studied and only 75% of women with it survived 5 years after the diagnostics, then nowadays over 90% of women survive 5 and more years after the cancer diagnostics due to the efficient chemotherapies, hormonal medicine and highly developed equipment that allow to diagnose cancer at its initial stages and makes its treatment easier.
Nevertheless, the problem is still burning as every year the number of people with cancer grows. In the USA this year 182, 460 cases of female breast cancer 40, with 480 of them being fatal, and 1, 990 cases of breast cancer of males resulted in 450 deaths.
Another widely spread type of this disease is lung cancer. This very type of cancer occurs mostly in people that smoke heavily, thus it can be diagnosed in both males and females with an equal rate of probability. Lung cancer is a disease that damages the tissues that cover the lungs and forms the uncontrollable growth of cancer cells in the lungs. There are two types of lung cancer – small cell and non-small lung cancer.
The progress that has been recently achieved in cancer research and treatment allows nowadays treating lung cancer at its initial stages and makes its diagnostics easier and cheaper. Although this year 215, 020 cases of lung cancer were diagnosed in the USA and 161, 840 of them resulted in people’s deaths, the modern level of the development of medicine allows to hope that the situation will soon change for the better.
Prostate cancer is the third type of cancer that occurs most often in the male part of mankind and the USA is not an exception. This is the disease that damages the tissues of the prostate and occurs mostly in older males, although young males are also under the threat of this disease. As well as in cases with other types of cancer, this type can nowadays be treated and diagnosed easier, especially if detected at the initial stages. This became possible due to the development of science that allowed the creation of new medicine. Thus, the number of males dying from this in the USA is decreasing every year by 1%. Nevertheless, the number of the diagnosed cases is still great. This year it amounted to 186, 320 cases 28, 660 of which were fatal.
In conclusion, I would like to say that in this essay we managed to consider briefly the three most common types of cancer. We also saw the ways cancer can be treated and traced the progress that has been made in cancer research over past years. We can now clearly see that the numbers of cases of cancer that are diagnosed every year are great but the development of science allows us to hope for the better.
