The school selected for the technology plan is W.T. White High School. It is a public high school situated in Dallas, Texas. Student enrollment begins from grade nine to grade twelve. It belongs to Dallas Independent School District. White High School was named to commemorate the Dallas superintendent during the time of its inception, Dr. W.T. White. In 1964, the school was officially opened to the public and it accepted students from all races including black students. Judging from the name White High School, then one could easily think that it was a racial school taking into account the fact that it began during the time that segregation had reached its peak in the US.
The Dallas Independent School District commonly known as DISD is based in Dallas and it serves the purpose of operating the public schools that are situated within the school district. Its boundaries cover 809 square kilometers of land in the area. Within this boundary, a huge percentage of the schools are situated within the city of Dallas although there are a few other small towns that the school district serves.
The exact location of W.T. White High School is 4505 Ridgeside Drive, Dallas Texas 75244. The student population is quite high as there are a total of 2,253 students in the entire school. The students do not come from far to attend school, it draws students from the local surrounding area of Dallas city.
W.T. White High School is known for its achievement in nurturing sports personalities. A list of some of the alumni of the school, clearly indicates that the majority of them came to be sportsmen and women that have made the country proud. It covers a wide range of sporting activities including American football, soccer, golf, and basketball. The school has equally made some tremendous achievements in the field. It has won several district championships from 1961 to 1994. It has also produced book smart individuals who have made it in their lives doing business and in the corporate world.
There are several goals and objectives that the school needs to put into consideration. There is a need for ensuring that every teacher in the school attends school as required by the floor. In addition to these records, there is a need for the school to have an electronic system of register where students do not have to register on behalf of the students who were absent. Using books in order to record registers is very cumbersome to the teachers who are forced to mark the books on a daily basis.
Mistakes could easily be made with manual records. A critical look at the performance of the school recently, it has been obviously clear that the school requires an improvement in terms of technology and its development. The use of the latest version of educational software programs will help to increase the performance of the school to produce more numbers of students who not only are familiar with sporting activities but also highly intelligent. The challenges that are expected during the implementation process, include the outdated software that the school uses, the inability of technology to be used in higher-level thinking capacity, and lastly, it is very difficult to computerize everything in the school.
