Introduction
The concept of freedom and independence is the foundation of modern civilization. It is hard to imagine a world without it, but people may soon find out. Since it is founded on the principles of freedom and independence, many countries want these concepts to be practiced in other countries. In China, the government claims sovereignty over the island of Taiwan and has been oppressing the country for decades (Gold, 2019).
It does this through many instruments like military action and political tactics to force the country under control. The government denies freedom of speech, religion, and freedom of movement to the Taiwanese (Gold, 2019). They further take away the countries’ freedom by arresting them and cutting off their communication with the outside world. However, this cannot be taken lightly as these actions are led by an all-powerful leader who is trying to own both countries and use them to increase his power and wealth even more.
In this speech, the writer will outline the problems that China is causing in Taiwan and Tibet. First, the researcher will explain how China’s behavior has been increasingly aggressive recently, including threats to invade Taiwan and demolish Tibetan monasteries. Next, the speech will discuss how these actions violate international law and human rights and that these violations are part of a larger pattern of aggression from China toward its neighbors. Finally, the writer will outline solutions for addressing this problem at an international level.
Problem
China is a country that oppresses people from Taiwan and Tibet. The government of China has been trying to take over these countries since they gained independence. They have sent troops to these countries to take over their land and resources (Mukherjee, 2021).
China’s relationship with Taiwan is an issue of national security. The government has made it clear that it will not tolerate any other country interfering in their affairs, including Taiwanese independence movements. The Chinese government has been very vocal about opposing the Taiwanese independence movement. They claim that this movement is a threat to China’s national security and, therefore, must be stopped. Their actions are not only illegal under international law but also oppressive and immoral. The Chinese government has threatened to invade Taiwan if it continues to push for independence (Gold, 2019). They have further threatened military action against Taiwan if it does not comply with their demands for full sovereignty over Taiwan.
This action is not right, but it is happening right now. The Chinese government has been oppressing these people for many years, but people need to stop them before they do more damage. People cannot sit by while China takes over their own country. They must stand up for themselves and protect themselves from these actions. Taiwan’s democratic system is a model for other nations worldwide (Vahali, 2020). It has shown people that democracy can work even when large populations want autonomy from an occupying power—like China—and want to take back their land. China has been oppressing these countries for many years, and they have not stopped at anything to silence the people who have spoken out against this oppression. For example, China has gone as far as to use military force against the Tibetan people to prevent them from expressing their political views or having a say in their government.
China has further cracked down on human rights activists by arresting them and silencing any opposition to their rule through intimidation tactics such as imprisonment or death sentences (Vahali, 2020). These actions are unacceptable and must be stopped if people hope to maintain peace in the world. The government of China has been trying to take over both countries by force, but there has never been any real reason. The people in Taiwan and Tibet want to be free from China’s oppression. China’s actions have been particularly egregious in Tibet. They have been using brutal tactics like martial law and bombings against civilians to force people into being loyal to them rather than their own country (Vahali, 2020). They have been killing innocent people who are simply trying to get by daily.
Solution
China has been known to restrict freedom of expression in the country and around the globe. In Tibet, Chinese authorities control all aspects of life, including religion and culture. In Taiwan, Chinese authorities have used military force to maintain control over the island despite its democratic government. The solution to this issue is not easy; it will require changing how China’s leaders perceive themselves as a nation and their role in the world (Vahali, 2020).
It will require them to have an open dialogue with other countries about human rights violations that occur outside their borders. Ultimately, China needs to recognize that its actions are causing problems for itself and others around them who are working towards peace and prosperity through peaceful means. They do this without violence or oppression being used against others seeking those things for themselves or their fellow citizens.
For years, China has been oppressing both Taiwan and Tibet with its rule of fear, intimidation, and economic sanctions. These tactics have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and continue to do so today. The world has watched as China waged war on these two countries, but China has not responded with any meaningful action to this crisis. It is time for China to stop its aggression against these countries, which are both democratic entities that deserve the same respect as any other government in the world. To help end this conflict peacefully, China should consider signing the United Nations Declaration on the right of people everywhere to self-determination (Fraser & Murakami, 2022).
A document states that all nations have a right to choose their leaders and form their governments without interference from others or outside forces like China (Fraser & Murakami, 2022). Further, there should be no restrictions on who can travel between countries and what they can bring when they go.
China’s invasion of Taiwan and Tibet is a clear example of oppression. China has an absolute territorial claim over both regions but has never demonstrated a willingness to abide by international law in its actions. It has consistently violated the human rights of people in both areas and continues to do so today (Fraser & Murakami, 2022). The best way for China to resolve this problem would be for it to recognize that its claim on Taiwan is not legitimate and must respect the sovereignty of Taiwan and Tibet. This act would require China to withdraw its troops from the region, end its military occupation of both places, and allow Taiwanese and Tibetan leaders to determine their future without interference from Beijing. China will not change course until it is forced into doing so by international pressure, and that pressure can only come from countries like the United States and Japan. They have traditionally supported Taiwan against Chinese aggression.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Taiwan and Tibet were once a part of China, and now they are separate from China. However, although these states consider themselves independent from the authoritarian Chinese government, even though they believe they have achieved their goal of independence, are the nations free, or have they just exchanged one form of oppression for another? They are still subject to the Chinese Communist Party and its methods to maintain control over the citizens that live there. There is no doubt that there have been many cultures, wars, struggles, and betrayals throughout the history of the world. Historically, countries have gone through war, separation, and oppression of another culture or government.
The writer believes that, in this case, China is using force, manipulation, and power to persuade its people to support them in their decisions. Even though they are trying to use a peaceful approach to resist the military aggression from China, it will not stop. The leader of Tibet may be stuck between a rock and a hard place with little chance of future escape. Freedom is a human right, not something that should be legally given or taken away by a government. Other nations should immediately condemn the acts of oppression in China against the Tibetan people and other people’s populations. China must grant these oppressed peoples their fundamental rights, including the freedom of speech, freedom to practice religion, and the freedom to pursue a political career if they choose.
